What to expect

The CUH Cancer Support Team are multi-skilled professionals who work alongside the clinical teams at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. They understand that cancer diagnosis and treatment can have a major impact on your life, physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. They offer help, signposting and referrals to other services, to help with any non-clinical concerns you may have. The service is available to patients with any type of cancer who attend Addenbrookes for care, as well as their family members and carers.

There are several ways to contact the team. There is an information pod at Addenbrooke’s Hospital where you can chat to a Cancer Support Adviser in person (no appointment necessary), and they will be able to signpost you to the most relevant help. The information pod is open from Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays. For opening times visit their website. The service has a team of Cancer Navigators who each have expertise in a specific type of cancer. They can assist patients throughout their pathway providing information and support. You can contact the Navigators by calling 01223 274801 (option 1) or emailing [email protected] . They are visible in clinics, wards and around the hospital and can see you face to face, speak to you on the telephone or via Attend Anywhere online facility.

There is also an online contact form which you can complete on the Cancer Support Services website. The team aim to respond to all messages within 72 hours. They are not an emergency service and cannot offer any clinical advice. For clinical or appointment queries you should contact your clinical team.

The service has an array of leaflets, digital resources and information on awareness topics. This can be tailored to the specific needs of the visitor based on a conversation with a member of the team. The service also shares new information, news and events on their social media pages and works with the CPPG Cancer Patient Partnership Group. The service provides wellbeing events throughout the year in collaboration with other organisations and services focusing on subjects to support cancer patients, loved ones and carers.

Help with Benefits and Finance
CUH Cancer Support Service can refer patients to the Macmillan benefits team for assistance with benefits claims, Macmillan grant enquiries and carers benefits. Please contact the service to discuss this further. They also have information to assist with cost of living pressures.

All services provided by CUH Cancer Support Service are free of charge.

CUH Cancer Support Service are accredited with the Caring Together Carer Friendly Tick Award for Health. This means they they meet standards to ensure that carers are identified and properly supported.
