Millennium Wood is a small nature reserve, open to everyone. The wood offers opportunities for a short walk through the trees or to sit and enjoy the surroundings, either under the canopy or in the small meadow it incorporates.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- Time in nature offers a wealth of wellbeing benefits - calming our minds, boosting our mood and offering escapism from everyday life
- The native plants and wildlife offer learning opportunities which are great for cognitive function, plus local knowledge can contribute to a sense of belonging
- The Wood is the perfect size for a short walk; research shows as little as 10 minutes of movement can benefit our bodies and minds
'I was so surprised to find the Millennium Wood right there in the village. It's full of wildlife and the information board meant I could appreciate the plants and animals that are there.'

What to Expect
Millennium Wood can be found directly off Main Street in Witchford. Look out for a red sign directing you through wooden double gates and along the entrance path (officially number 121 Main Street). As the area opens out there is an information board where you can learn more about the origins of the wood and what you can expect to see there.
The area is made up of a small wood, with a looped path winding through it, an open meadow area which includes a picnic table/benches and a separate bench to sit on, and a designated campfire pit with seating around it.
More Information
The site is largely flat and the pathway is well trodden, however it is unsurfaced so may be challenging for people with mobility issues and is not wheelchair friendly beyond the entrance path.
There are beehives at the far end of wood, these pose no risk to the public if left alone but those with an allergy should be aware.
The Millennium Wood is owned and managed by Witchford Parish Council and is available for everyone to use. There is a protocol for use of the firepit and individuals or groups wishing to enjoy this setup need to check with the council before doing so, using contact details given on this page or via their website.
Also on the parish council website, you can find out about other walks in and around Witchford, local green spaces and volunteering to help look after them, under the Open Spaces tab.

It is free to visit Millennium Wood.
