BuggyBootcamp is a postnatal group exercise programme. It's fun, safe, sociable and helps improve your fitness and confidence to move your body after birth.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- BuggyBootcamp allows you to take part in physical activity whilst meeting other mums
- You get all the mental health benefits of exercising – but with your baby
- Babies’ needs come first and, because of the pace of the class, there is ample opportunity for feeding, nappy changing and soothing cuddles.
"BuggyBootcamp allowed me to feel safe to exercise in the months after I gave birth. Being able to take my baby with me was the only way I could have had the opportunity to get moving again and the company of other mums made everything easier. I've made some fantastic friends and feel part of a community as a result"

Meet the Class Leader: Beth joined a Buggy Bootcamp group where she lived at the time of having her first child and loved the experience of having a safe way of exercising whilst not needing to be away from her baby. She found that making new friends and having the support of other local mums was a real bonus as a new parent and wants to help other women to benefit from the same experiences.

What to Expect
What do I do when I get to my first session? When you arrive at the centre, tell the reception desk that you are attending BuggyBootcamp and you'll be directed to the main hall. You can take your pushchair in with you and Beth will greet everyone on arrival.
What do I need to bring? Whilst workout mats and other equipment is provided, some people bring a rug or blanket big enough for their baby to lie on next to them. You can also bring whatever you need for your baby or toddler - toys, bottles, snacks etc. And, of course, don't forget to look after yourself and bring a bottle of water.
What is the format of the class? Movement starts with a gentle warm up during which everyone introduces themself and their little one(s), then Beth will guide you through a variety of fun exercises working on both strength and cardio. Depending on your ability and postpartum journey, Beth will offer adaptions so that everyone can enjoy exercising whilst making progress with their fitness in a way that suits them. There is time for some stretching and a cool down to end each class.
What if I need to tend to my baby? Sessions are designed to be adaptable to you and your baby's needs. Need to change a nappy? No problem! Feeding time? Go ahead! Baby needs comforting? Absolutely!
I've never exercised before but I'd like to try, is that ok? BuggyBootcamp has an inclusive ethos meaning it is suitable for all levels of fitness. Beth recognises that the wellbeing benefits of group exercise and meeting other new mums are just as important as your physical progress: Much advice has been exchanged and many enduring friendships forged via sharing the joys and challenges of parenting. Your first session is free, so you can find out for yourself whether the group is for you.
More Information
I don't have sports clothing, does it matter? You don't need to have any fancy sports kit to participate, just make sure you have a pair of trainers so that you don't slip and which will offer some cushioning, plus clothes which allow you to move freely.
How do I get there? The Paradise Centre is in central Ely, a short walk from the bus stops on Market Street and with ample parking in the Newnham Street carpark (free for upto 3hours).
What about toilets? Inside the centre there are toilet facilities, including baby changing.
The BuggyBootcamp concept was created in 2008 by Nicola Ostler . Here she is sharing some really useful information about postpartum bodies and exercise:
