Bumbly Bees Music Group

Back to Activities

Bumbly Bees are a music group and so much more! They offer welcoming, relaxed sessions where parents/carers and children (from 0 - 4 years old) explore singing and dancing together.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • The relaxed culture of the sessions gives children the chance to be themselves and learn in a way that works for them. This approach is also great for adult attendees, for example new parents can expect to be greeted with a warm welcome and forge connections with others in a safe space.
  • Enjoying music makes you feel good. If you choose to participate in the movement and singing segments you'll benefit from the endorphins released in doing so.
  • All adults carers are welcome, including grandparents. There are chairs available for anyone less mobile and it's still possible to fully participate whilst seated plus plenty of the songs are nursery rhymes that have endured through generations.

'I love taking my daughter to Bumbly Bees and watching her little face watch Tia, she's fascinated with the sign language and loves the music and dancing. What I love about it also is how passionate Tia is both musically and as a teacher'

What to Expect

Bumbly Bees is for anybody who loves music between ages of 0 - 4 years and their carers! When you arrive at a session, Tia or her mum, Jane, will greet you and you can make yourself comfortable on one of the spots laid out around the room. Children are free to explore the space and a selection of toys is laid out for them to play with whilst everyone arrives. Your child remains your responsibility throughout but the group as whole look out for everyone. If you feel anxious at all or need practical support, you can bring along a friend or partner. And if you have any questions feel free to contact Tia beforehand using any of the contact details given.

The session starts with the Bumbly Bees intro song, for which a song sheet is provided, and the children have a chance to introduce themselves. The hour-long session then includes nursery rhymes with actions, some more current songs (listen out for Baby Shark!), simple percussion instruments, some free play with props such as hoops and balls, and even some Makaton signing. There is some movement around the room but it's optional and children can fully participate without their adult next to them. It helps to be able to get up and down from the floor but if mobility is a challenge then chairs are available.

The groups wraps up with an age-appropriate snack for the children and a farewell song.

More Information

Bumbly Bees regular groups operate during term times but there are often seasonal events in school holidays, such an Easter Egg hunt and Christmas party. Tia will let attendees know about these or you can also find out about them on her Facebook page.

It can be a good idea for adults to bring a water bottle with them, please don't bring hot drinks in to the venues.

Littleport Village Hall is central to the town, there is a carpark on the same street and some on-street parking close by. There are accessible toilets on the premises but unfortunately no baby-changing facility. You can attend to all your child's needs including breastfeeding in the main hall, there are quieter corners should you want privacy.

St. Mary's Church has no parking of its own. The nearest carparks are St. Mary's Street or Barton Road (exit on Parade Lane for the shortest walking route), where there are no parking charges. St. Mary's Street is limited to two hours. The church rooms are fully accessible, follow the path around the right hand side of the church to the glass doors, and there are toilets onsite. Please leave any pushchairs in the entrance foyer.

Soham Pavilion has ample parking right outside and there are toilet facilities. The building has an accessibility ramp.

Tia encourages a culture of learning-by-exploring and attendees can gain a range of life skills such as social interaction and manual dexterity.

They also teach Makaton/sign language too!

Sessions are paid for on a week-by-week basis by cash, bank transfer or Paypal. No need to commit to a fixed number of sessions although if you'd prefer, you can secure your place per term. There are discounts for under four months, more than one child, and childminders - please contact Tia to arrange.
