The Cafe offers an opportunity for local people to get together in a warm, relaxed environment to enjoy a hot drink, delicious cakes and snacks whilst having a chat.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- Meeting others from your local community can help with feelings of belonging
- The environment is set up to look like a cafe with pretty table cloths and cake stands. You'll be offered a drink which is brought to you; it feels good to receive this care and attention, especially for those who may be at risk of isolation or loneliness
- Chatting with others, one-to-one or in a group, is great for cognitive function

What to Expect
The Cafe hosts a variety of occasional attendees and regulars so you'll be warmly welcomed on your first visit and can expect to see the same faces should you go again, making it a good option for those who may be less confident in social situations. When you get there you'll be greeted at the door or soon after you arrive. You can take a seat at one of the beautifully laid out tables or there are sofas if you'd prefer. Most people congregate around the tables to chat and because that's where the cake and snacks are!
Alan will offer you a hot drink and bring it to you, which is a lovely way the organisers show care to people attending. There are cake stands set out on the tables from which you can help yourself to whatever takes your fancy. The session lasts for two hours and you can stay for however long you like. Most people arrive within the first half an hour and tend to stay until the end. The majority of attendees are from Wilburton, with a few from neighbouring villages.
More Information
The Cafe is hosted by Anthea, Alan and Tony who are members of the church but it welcomes people of all faiths and none and is purely an opportunity for local community members to enjoy each others' company in a warm, comfortable environment and with refreshments.
The Baptist Church is located centrally in the village, opposite Carpond Lane. There is pavement the entire length of the High Street and a pedestrian crossing outside the church. Those arriving by car will need to park on the street and there are opportunities for this close by on both the High Street itself and Carpond Lane.
The venue is accessible via a ramp at the front of the building and if you need assistance with the double doors Colin will be happy to help. The toilets are situated at the back of the building and can be reached internally via a door at the back of the hall. However, this route includes steps and is via the toddler group rooms so you may choose the alternative route which is external and to the right of the building. The video above shows you this accessible route.
The Cafe has a donation box immediately inside the hall, for those who are able to contribute a couple of pounds towards the running costs and refreshments. There is also a foodbank collection point here as an alternative way to contribute.
Anthea is very keen that everyone feels welcome regardless of their circumstances, so if you feel unable to donate you are just as valued as every attendee. The donations box is situated discreetly to make sure no-one need worry.
