Child and Family Centres offer groups, events, activities, courses and support for families with children aged 0-19. As well as centres in Ely, Soham and Littleport, they run activities at libraries, churches and other community venues.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- The centres facilitate parents and carers building friendships and sharing experiences to foster positive mental health.
- They actively promote best practice for child and family health and wellbeing.
- Families can be signposted to access alternative services who are able to give more specific health and wellbeing support.
‘Sincere thanks and appreciation to the child and family centre team for making these sessions possible – it’s been a lifeline for me and it’s really helped mine and my baby’s confidence in lockdown. They have been great and something to look forward to each week’

What to Expect
East Cambs Child and Family Centres offer a huge range of activities, support and advice. What’s on offer will vary a little from one centre to the next but the following are examples of what to expect:
- Stay and play for children up to 5yrs
- Baby sensory session
- Breastfeeding support
- Introducing solids workshop
- Midwife clinic
- Baby self-weigh drop-in
- Peer support for fathers and male carers of young children
- Tea, toast and chat for families with children of all ages
Many of the most popular activities are subject to booking ahead and therefore it is worth following their Facebook page or emailing [email protected] and asking to be added to their mailing list in order to find out about the next month’s schedule as soon as possible.
More Information
Sessions usually take place at the Child and Family Centre premises. Outdoor activities may meet at different locations and from time to time an alternative community venue may need to be used so it is worth double checking when you book.
Whilst a lot of the support available is for new parents and young children, the Child and Family Centres welcome families with children up to 19years of age. Staff at the centres may be able to support directly or will signpost you to other appropriate sources of advice and support.
There is a small cost (usually £2) for regular activities such as stay & play sessions. Occasional activities may be free and course costs vary so check with the centre for info. East Cambs child and family centres aim to avoid cost being prohibitive to anyone benefitting from their services so if you are on a low income do let them know.
All other advice, support and information is free.
