Creative Cafe at Ely LibraryBack to Activities
Arts and Minds run a free, drop-in Creative Cafe at Ely Library once a month. Everyone is welcome to join, particularly those experiencing anxiety, depression or loneliness. It's a great way to connect with others and try something creative in a friendly environment.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- Creative engagement can improve confidence and self-esteem;
- Creative engagement promotes social connectedness;
- It provides opportunities for you to experiment with different materials and learn new skills.
“A lovely atmosphere. Everyone very generous and encouraging. Interesting conversations.”
“I enjoyed the calm atmosphere and gentle approach and the fact that it wasn’t crowded.”

What to expect
This group is on a pause at the moment. It should start again in Spring 2024.
The Creative Cafe is an informal, drop-in session where you can take part in a creative activity while enjoying a free cuppa and a chat! It’s a relaxed setting where art materials are provided and you can engage with them as much or as little as you like.
Sessions run once a month at Ely Library. Visit the website here for details of days and times. There’s no need to book – just go along!
If you are feeling anxious or nervous about coming to a session you can speak to staff at the Junction, they are happy to show you around the venue beforehand.
The library is just off the market square in Ely. The closest bus stop is Market Street, Stop C which is a five minute walk away. The venue does not have its own parking, but there is public parking in Waitrose, within 200m. There is a designated drop-off point in the venue car park.
There is ramp access to the venue, and the doors open automatically. The steps have a handrail and are clearly marked. There are 15 steps between floors. Motorised scooters are allowed in parts of the venue. There is a lift that can be accessed publicly without notifying staff, but there is not a mirror to aid with reversing. There are accessible toilets in the building.
Creative Cafe sessions are free of charge, refreshments and all materials are provided. As a small charity, Arts and Minds welcome voluntary contributions from participants to support their costs, but there is no expectation.
