What to expect

There’s lots of events and activities happening at Hiam Sports and Social Club. When you arrive, if there is an event on, someone will greet you at the door. It isn’t a big venue but they’ll make sure you know where to go and answer any questions you might have.

Hiam normally books live musicians to play at most of its regular ballroom dances, country line dances and rock’n’roll events. Details of which artists will be playing are provided on the website and on other publicity. At some events music is provided on CDs and this is also made clear.

The majority of activities, mostly dancing and bingo, do not require booking, you can just turn up. Occasional ticketed events will be clearly indicated as such on the website events listing and other promotional material and you can purchase tickets via the contacts tab on their website.

Prickwillow is a small village close to Ely with no public transport option for the venue. Hiam Sports and Social Club is easy to spot from the road as you turn directly in to the carpark, which has plenty of spaces. The building is accessible and includes disabled toilet facilities.

The club has a licensed bar and tea/coffee/biscuits are provided at afternoon tea dances.

You can attend some events as an observer free of charge – this is a good way to see what happens and decide if you’d like to join in next time. It’s a good idea to contact the event organiser first so they know to expect you.

There is a charge for attending events and classes. Details can be found on the website. Hiam Sports and Social Club encourages people to purchase an annual membership which then entitles you to a discount on entry.
