Soham Art+ (Art and Craft Group)

Back to Activities

Soham Art+ (Soham Art & Craft Group) is a small, informal group of adult hobby artists and crafters who meet up to make art or do crafts and to chat in a friendly environment.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • It offers social connection: Being part of an adult art group fosters a sense of community and belonging. It provides opportunities to interact with others, share experiences, and build supportive relationships, all of which can enhance emotional wellbeing and combat feelings of isolation.
  • Creating Art boosts self-expression and thereby confidence: Being creative allows individuals to express their emotions, thoughts, and experiences in a non-verbal way. This can improve self-esteem and offer a sense of accomplishment, especially when participants see progress in their skills and creativity over time.
  • It can reduce stress: Engaging in creative activities, like painting or drawing, helps to focus the mind and divert attention away from everyday stresses. This can lead to a reduction in anxiety, as the process itself promotes relaxation and mindfulness.

What to Expect

The group is open to all adults and is a sociable group who enjoy a chat. Attendees bring their own projects to work on and materials to do so, it’s not a tutored session. People share their ideas and exchange tips in an encouraging and non-judgmental environment.

Tables and chairs are set up in the meeting room, there is also a sink for water and cleaning up. Tea and Coffee are provided.

The group lead is called Graeme, you can email him ahead of your first session if you have any questions and also to let him know you’re coming so that he can look out for you on arrival.
