Soham Royal British Legion

Back to Activities

Veterans and locals get together for a cup of tea and a chat or to seek help and advice. Meets weekly with a larger gathering once a month including guest speakers and presentations. A Royal British Legion registered volunteer is present to offer support.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • Loneliness has been identified as a common factor amongst veterans, so having free, regular social events supported by telephone buddies is a great boost to their well-being. It offers a safe, friendly environment which is open to everyone in the community. Locals can make social connections and seek free advice and guidance.
  • Events are supervised by registered RBL volunteers who have DBS checks and safeguarding training. Covid-safe measures are in place. It all adds up to a really considered, welcoming environment where people can relax.
  • Soham branch RBL committee and members host and run weekly Community Touchpoint coffee mornings. Other local groups and Charities also support the event with volunteers and guest speakers giving information and advice. This offers opportunities to learn and volunteers have the satisfaction of giving to their community.
