Walking In Your Shoes

Back to Activities

Walking In Your Shoes provides care, support and stimulating activities for people with dementia in a safe and welcoming environment (based in Milton and Swaffham Prior), offering family and other carers respite.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • Respite provision is personal and engaging, so that families or other carers can feel confident that their loved one will be safe whilst having an enjoyable and meaningful day.
  • People with dementia who attend the sessions will experience relevant and tailored activities plus interaction with others who understand their challenges.
  • Carers can enjoy a break from the physical and mental load that caring can bring.

What to expect

The maximum number of guests at any time is six; this ensures the personal touch. Sessions are run by a fully qualified psychotherapist who is also qualified to Level 5 in Health and Social Care. The person with dementia, the guest, can stay from one  to five hours, during which time they can get involved in games, crafts, memory catalysts and sensory activities.

The team have years of experience supporting vulnerable adults and running community hubs; they set up this provision so carers can arrive with their loved one then leave for how ever many hours have been booked, confident that their loved one is having a safe and enjoyable time.

If a guest is staying for lunch, they will need to bring a packed lunch with them, however all drinks and snacks will be provided. The aim is for lunchtimes to be stimulating and sociable by encouraging guests and visitors to eat together.
