Wild Burwell is a group of local volunteers working to conserve and increase nature in Burwell
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- Meeting others with a shared purpose is a great way to build social connections
- Spending time outdoors and carrying out practical tasks helps your mood and improves your physical wellbeing
- Offering your time to help your community in a good cause feels good; it could improve your morale, plus learning opportunities are great for self-confidence and cognitive function.
What to Expect
Email Wild Burwell and/or follow their Facebook page to find out about upcoming events and initiatives around the village. You can offer an hour or two of your time for a specific activity or offer to be called on whenever a working group is needed.
As well as volunteering your time, Wild Burwell encourage knowledge sharing so there are opportunities to learn and build connections with other people from the Burwell community.
In conjunction with these group activities, Wild Burwell help individuals to consider their immediate environment (their street, their garden…) and ways in which they can improve conditions for wildlife. So even if you aren’t able to offer volunteering time, you are welcome to approach them to talk about small changes you can make close to home.
More Information
The types of activities Wild Burwell engage in include the following:
- Run a tree nursery in Priory Meadow and give away young trees
- Work with Burwell Parish Council to manage the meadows, verges and recreation grounds in a wildlife-friendly way
- Raise funds – for example to buy and fit bird boxes locally
- Sharing their knowledge of nature in the context of helping it thrive in Burwell
It’s free to be a part of Wild Burwell. From time to time there will be fund raising initiatives to which donations are always welcome.
