Against Scams Partnership

Back to Support

Community Protection is a county council team delivering scams prevention and support. This includes talks and training to help people to spot scams and 1:1 support to victims of scams. The team also leads the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Against Scams Partnership (CAPASP).

Stronger Together

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Against Scams Partnership (CAPASP) is a county-wide partnership of public, private and voluntary sector organisations committed to working together to stop scams and doorstep crime across the county.

Become a Friend Against Scams

The partnership encourages everyone to complete the Friends Against Scams e-learning to gain the knowledge and skills to ‘take a stand against scams’. There are now more than 1 million Friends nationally – so why not join them?

Get involved

CAPASP also invite residents and businesses to get involved in the partnership as one of the following:

  • Partner – organisations (currently 20) committing to a charter and action plan covering 4 themes.
  • Advisor – individuals who have suffered the financial and emotional harm of being a victim of scams who can advise what effective prevention might look like and offer peer support to other victims.
  • Supporter – organisations or individuals who pledge to support the partnership and play their part in building local resilience to scams.

It’s easy!

Becoming a partnership supporter is simple. You don’t need to sign a binding commitment – it’s about doing as much as you are able to help your local community to stay safe from scams. They make it easy by sharing:

  • a monthly newsletter
  • interim scam alerts (to notify of topical scams happening in between newsletter issues).
  • social media content for easy re-sharing, retweeting etc.
  • scams prevention resources e.g. we have a library of self-serve resources such as posters, leaflets and guidance documents on their webpage and can loan display boards, leaflet holders, share articles for newsletters etc.

Supporters are encouraged to share these scams prevention messages onwards through their local networks and information points e.g. web pages, newsletters, social media accounts, noticeboards and letterboxes.

Other recommended resources

The Partnership also recommend these useful resources:

  • Stop Loan Sharks investigates and prosecutes illegal money lenders and provides support for borrowers in the UK.
  • Get Safe Online provides lots of tips and advice on how to protect yourself, your computer and other tech, and family online.
  • Safe Local Trades help you find recommended and approved traders and service providers near you.
  • Independent Age also has lots of useful tips on how to avoid being scammed. Search ‘how to avoid a scam’.

Against Scams offer scams awareness talks to community groups. They also offer 1-to-1 support for those who have experienced a scam, or who are at risk of doing so.

There is no cost for this service.
