Dementia Adventure

Back to Support

Dementia Adventure is a charity with a vision for a more active and fulfilled life for everyone living with dementia. They provide supported holidays, free dementia training for family and friends, and training for professionals and organisations.

What to expect

Research has shown that connection to nature and outdoor activity has significant health and wellbeing benefits for people living with dementia, including improved sleep, appetite and speech, and reduced stress, anxiety and loneliness. Dementia Adventure are on a mission to support people living with dementia to get outdoors, connect with nature and their community, and keep a sense of adventure in their lives – whatever ‘adventure’ may mean to the individual. They do this through delivering dementia training and supported dementia holidays.

Dementia Training for Friends & Family

Dementia Adventure offer free online training sessions for family and friends supporting someone with dementia at home. These informal sessions offer an opportunity to meet others in a similar situation to you, and can help you discover small and simple steps that can make a big difference. There is a focus on building skills and confidence, and how to create positive experiences outdoors and in nature for the person you are supporting. Click the links to find out more about their two different training sessions: Understanding Dementia Better and Mood & Motivation.

Supported Dementia Holidays

Dementia Adventure offer fully supported small-group dementia holidays. They understand the complex and individual needs of people living with dementia, as well as how carers can benefit from having the chance to relax and enjoy time with their loved one while someone else takes care of all the planning and background tasks. Adventure leaders and volunteers plan and facilitate a variety of activities, and the price you pay for the holiday includes accommodation, food, transport, all activities and 24-hour support for the length of your trip. There is lots of information about these supported group holidays on the Dementia Adventure website. If you are interested you are welcome to call the team on 01245 237548 or complete the contact form on their website. The team can also organise tailored holidays for friends and family who want to go away together.

Dementia Adventure aim to deliver their holidays to as many people who need them as possible. Their Dementia Adventure Support Fund was set up to ensure this includes those who wouldn’t be able to fund a break on their own. The Fund can be used to contribute towards the cost of a holiday itself or towards something that is creating a barrier to someone taking a holiday, like transport or appropriate clothing. For more information visit this page on their website or call the team on 01245 237548.
