Ely Armed Forces and Veterans

Back to Support

Ely Veterans meet for a coffee morning once a week in the central library and share breakfast once a month at the Outdoor Sports Association clubhouse. You can enjoy a chat and refreshments with like-minded people in a welcoming, relaxed environment.

What to Expect

Veterans Coffee Mornings take place weekly on the first floor in Ely Central Library. As you enter from the stairway, you should see their sign on the right and Les, who facilitates the session, or another group member will greet you and help you settle in. There are a choice of seats, hot drinks you can help yourself to and a useful folder of resources where further support can be found. Most people just chat about life in general, share anecdotes and enjoy the company of other veterans or associates.

Veterans Breakfast Clubs take place once a month at the Ely Outdoors Association clubhouse. Using the main entrance, take the stairs to the main community room on the first floor, you can't miss it. You can sit wherever you choose and attendees enjoy a full English breakfast with a hot drink.

More Information

The Ely Vets foster an environment of respect, understanding and friendship. Retired veterans, those currently serving and immediate family members/dependants are welcome to join all events and if you go by yourself people will be sure to make you feel welcome and facilitate introductions if that's what you'd like.

The coffee morning is just a drop in, you don't need to book ahead and you can go as little or often as suits you. The number of attendees varies but is in the region of 5-15 people each week. The library is just off the market place in Ely. There is a lift to the first floor making it an accessible venue. The library does not have toilets but public facilities are very close by, immediately out of the library and signed around the corner to the left.

The breakfast club does not require you to book ahead and regularly caters for an expected attendance of 40-50 people. Unfortunately, the venue is not accessible for those in wheel chairs or with limited mobility (you need to be able to climb a flight of stairs to the first floor). There is ample parking outside the building.
