What to expect
When you enter the cafe room, a volunteer will greet you and help you with refreshments if you'd like. You can sit wherever you want, tables and chairs are laid out around the room.
The cafe nurtures a welcoming and informal culture so, whilst you can have supportive conversations with the group leader, Laura, or another volunteer, some attendees also chat amongst themselves about anything and everything. You're welcome to share your story, it is entirely up to you what you'd like to take from your time at the cafe - If that's just some quiet time in company that's ok too.
On the snack table and dotted around the room, you'll find information about other sources of support with your grief. Also displayed is the laminated document shown above, which offers some helpful group guidelines including the need for assumed confidentiality and respect.
More information
The Viva Theatre is situated at the very end of Spencer Drove on the right where you'll see the building entrance as you turn in, continue past it if you need to park, there is plenty of space beyond. As you enter through the double glass doors, you'll see the reception desk in front of you where there will often be someone to greet you on arrival but otherwise turn right again and through the next set of doors you'll find both the staircase and a wheelchair accessible lift. The old mill building has undergone an amazing regeneration programme recently, you may wish to take a moment to look at the displays in the hallway illustrating some of the building's interesting past.
At the top of the staircase or on exiting the lift, you'll find the entrance to the room where the Good Grief Cafe meets. Toilets for all are also accessed off this landing area.
The Cafe currently has funding until the end of March 2026 and is planned for the following dates:
Sat 31st Jan, 1:30 - 3:30pm
Thu 12th Feb 6:30 - 8:30pm
Tues 3rd Mar 5:00 - 7:00pm
Sat 21st Mar 1:30 - 3:30pm
