What to expect

Papworth Trust’s Day Opportunities ensure that disabled people can acquire independent living skills and live healthy lives whilst reducing social isolation.

The team at Papworth Trust are passionate about what they do and work hard to get to know the individuals they support – their likes, interests, needs and dreams. They strive to deliver high quality sessions, adapting their approach and session content in order to cater for varying needs and levels of ability.

Leisure and learning activities include arts and crafts, cake decorating, cooking and dining, digital photography, filmmaking, gym, needlecraft, social skills, confidence building and song writing. Some activities are more focused towards gaining employment – for example, the ‘First Steps to Success’ programme and ‘Routeway to Work’. There’s lots more information about activities on this link.

A member of the team will meet you to discuss your needs, aspirations, likes and dislikes to agree with you a programme of activities that you will enjoy, are appropriate and will help you achieve your goals.

Each centre is equipped to deliver a range of services in a safe and accessible environment. The majority of activities are designed so everyone can participate, so you will not be expected to bring your own equipment.

Papworth Trust supports adults (aged 18-65) with mild to moderate physical and learning disabilities, autism and mental health challenges to those with more complex needs. In Cambridgeshire there are three centres with places available – one in South Cambs, one in Cambridge City and one in Huntingdon. Please note the Huntingdon centre is Monday to Thursday only.

Individuals (or carers and/or family members) can directly refer themselves to Papworth Trust or a professional can refer you – for example Adult Social Services (subject to funding approval), Special Educational Needs (SEN) Schools, EHCP budget holders, voluntary/charitable and care support organisations.

Sessions are three hours long and are either 9.30am – 12.30pm or 12.30pm – 3.30pm.

Transport is not provided.

If you are going to be at the centre all day, bring your own lunch.

Day opportunities can be self-funded through direct payments, or through Adult Social Services.  Sessions cost £28 per person (2023/24).
